Richard J. Greene, Ph.D. has been a practicing psychologist for over twenty years, and has been with Levin & Zangrillo, P.C. for over thirteen years. He is a graduate of The State University of New York at Buffalo (BA, magna cum laude, 1971), Goddard College (MA, 1976), Harvard University (M.Ed., 1982), and the University of Michigan (Ph.D., 1989). Dr. Greene's career has spanned multiple professional accomplishments, including that of an educator, counselor, and clinical director of an institution serving emotionally challenged youth. He was a research assistant at McLean Hospital (1981-1982), a milieu therapist at the Human Resource Institute in Brookline, MA (1982-1983), a psychology intern at the Children's Psychiatric Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan (1984-1986), and held various psychologist positions at the University Center for the Child and Family and University Counseling Services (1986-1989). He was a postdoctoral fellow at McLean Hospital performing psychological testing and direct therapy to individuals, couples and families (1989-1991). After doing contract testing at the former Charles River Hospital (1991), Dr. Greene was the Clinical Director at the Counseling Center in Middleboro, MA (1991-1994). He has been an attending psychologist at McLean Hospital, an instructor at the Harvard University Medical School, and currently, along with his services at Levin & Zangrillo, P.C., maintains a private practice in Cambridge, MA.

Dr. Greene is experienced in working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. He is well versed in the area of psychological testing and, more recently, is utilizing Neurofeedback mechanisms to alleviate issues such as Attention Deficit Disorder, depression and anxiety. In addition, Dr. Greene uses hypnotherapy for smoking cessation, pain reduction, ADHD, depression, stress, and anxiety relief. He maintains close links with other professionals who also treat his clients, devoting himself to a network of care so as to maximize the benefits to those who seek treatment with him. Dr. Greene is a member of both the Massachusetts and American Psychological Associations, along with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Dr. Greene has received numerous awards for teaching and his doctoral thesis in the 1980's. He has published several articles, along with his many speaking engagements. He utilizes therapeutic styles best suited for his clients. Dr. Greene treats a wide range of emotional, behavioral and cognitive issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, survivors of sexual abuse and other traumas, and marital discord.

In terms of therapeutic style, Dr. Greene writes that “As a therapist, consultant, clinical director, and Harvard and McLean affiliate, I have found that no single therapeutic approach works for everyone. I incorporate elements of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal therapy for clients who are open to it, using hypnosis and neurofeedback as an adjunct to effective treatment.”
